Wooden flowers 2016

History
I started making wooden tulips in the late 1980’s as a side line as I had a lot of offcuts from making furniture. Then when interest rates went through the roof and no one was buying furniture I was forced to switch all my energies into just making wooden tulips. Initially made from reclaimed pine, I started selling these to gift shops all over the South-east. The biggest customer was a small shop in Canterbury called 39 which sold hundreds of my tulips every week to students. This got me into making flowers and from then on I switched from making and restoring furniture to full time flower production. pictured: tulips I made for the “Garden of gratitude”campaign outside St Paul’s Cathedral in May 2022 (courtesy of the Benefact group charity, photo by PinPip media)

Covent Garden Market
I only started retailing my flowers in 1989 initially at Camden Lock Sunday market. This was a great place to start back then as home grown crafts makers were in abundance and in demand. My initial designs were mainly finished using acrylic paints and hand painted but I later changed to spray finishing using light fast stains.
Moving to Covent Garden in 1994 the flowers started to evolve to a much higher standard of work and finish and I started to make a variety of turned vases as well as other wooden crafted products, mainly apples and pears. After 26 years the pandemic hit and this impacted greatly on my business so I decided to call it a day at Covent Garden.
Id like to thank all my retail and trade customers both home and abroad for all their great support through out the years
